When we conceived the scoop table, we wanted to explore the the materiality of concrete in a way that retains the heaviness and straightness concrete is known for and also in a way that has the spirit of the work we do which is more fluid and organic. Within the solidity of a concrete box we have scooped out very naturally fluid like forms addressing the contradiction present in the capabilities of the material. The scooping is inspired from the natural formations of the Grand Canyon and imbibes within it a sense of natural flow as opposed the block like outlines. Through the design of the scoop console we aim to invoke and extend how concrete is perceived and used.
