A canteen is a building people pass through quickly, yet return to daily. Its architecture doesn't need grandeur. It needs presence, built through pattern and light.

Across this project, that presence takes two distinct forms. One wall is a deep, grid-like concrete screen — rows of open rectangular cells, cast at scale, giving the boundary a strong architectural rhythm while allowing air and light to pass through freely. It reads less like a wall and more like a filter, softening the line between inside and outside without closing it off.

The second is a GFRC jali, cast in a warm rust tone and set in modular panels across the elevation. Its fine, interlocking geometric pattern catches sunlight and throws it back inward as shifting, honeycomb shadows across the columns and openings below — a screen that changes character through the day without a single moving part.

Together, the two surfaces show the range a single material system can hold: one grid, bold and structural; the other, intricate and ornamental, both engineered for exact repeat across every panel and every module, so the pattern reads as continuous architecture rather than applied decoration.
