Public infrastructure projects carry a different kind of responsibility. They are seen by thousands of people every day, they need to age well under constant use, and they represent an institution rather than a private client's personal taste. For the redevelopment of Asarva Railway Station in Ahmedabad, Western Railway needed a facade treatment that felt solid, dignified, and built to last, while still giving the building a clean architectural finish.

The design called for red brick cladding across the station building, paired with white banding, cornices, and window mouldings to break up the mass of the elevation and give it proportion. This kind of detailing is what turns a plain brick block into a building with real architectural presence, but achieving crisp, consistent lines across a structure this size, with columns, canopies, and long repeating window bays, needed a material that could deliver precision at scale without the weight and cost of natural stone.

GFRC was used to form the cornices, band mouldings, and window surrounds throughout the station. These elements run continuously along the building's length, wrapping around columns and framing openings, giving the facade its horizontal rhythm and tying the red brick sections together into a single cohesive design. At the entrance canopy, the same white detailing carries through onto the column capitals and bases, grounding the heavy brick piers and giving the whole porch a finished, formal look befitting a railway station entrance.

Beyond the visual role, the GFRC mouldings also had to perform, holding their profile and colour under constant sun exposure, monsoon weather, and the general wear of a high footfall public building, all while keeping installation timelines realistic for a live infrastructure project.

Completed in 2025, this project gave Asarva Railway Station a facade that looks every bit the part of a modern, well maintained public building, with GFRC detailing doing the quiet work of holding the entire design language together.
