Utility infrastructure rarely gets architectural consideration. It's usually screened off, boxed in, and forgotten by design. At this Torrent Power site, that assumption was set aside.
Enclosing an electrical tower structure in the middle of the city, a GFRC safety screen wraps the installation on all sides, framed in dark steel and filled with a dense, interlocking geometric jali pattern in white. The screen serves its primary purpose first, restricting access to critical infrastructure, but does so through a material and pattern considered enough to hold its own against the streetscape around it.
The lattice itself carries real intricacy: overlapping diamond and cross motifs repeated panel after panel, each one identical in depth and cut, so the enclosure reads as one continuous screen rather than a fence assembled from parts. Set against the industrial steel tower behind it and the city buildings beyond, the white jali softens what would otherwise be a purely functional barrier, giving it presence without giving up any of its protective role.
This is where GFRC proves its versatility. The same material and precision used to define a hotel façade or a jewellery store front here becomes a security enclosure, functional infrastructure, cast with dimensional consistency across every module, engineered to be safe first and considered second.
